OCAA Curling Championships

Published

This Thursday at the Peterborough Curling Club the Fleming Knights will host Confederation, Fanshawe, Humber, Mohawk, Niagara, St. Clair, Sault, and Seneca Colleges for the OCAA Provincial Curling Championships.
All three of last year’s champions are returning to defend their gold in the Men’s, Women’s, and Mixed Curling divisions. The Sault Cougars won last year’s Men’s division, while the Fanshawe Falcons took the gold in the Women’s, and the Humber Hawks in the Mixed division.
So far this season the early favourite in the Men’s division is the Mohawk Mountaineers. Mohawk’s men’s team has gone undefeated so far this season during two OCAA Invitational tournaments.
The Humber Hawk’s Women are the favoured side in their division having gone 5-0 when they hosted their 3rd Annual Bonspiel this past January and then had the most points at the Niagara Invitational two weeks later. The Niagara Invitational had a very tight point spread in the standings and should make for an exciting tournament this weekend.
The Mixed division had only one OCAA Invitational this January and three of the five teams competing at Provincials were there. Humber came away with the most points making them the ones with the targets on their backs.
