New funding for Cobourg Campus

Published

Fleming College’s Cobourg Campus has received an additional $97,460 in funding from the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities and Employment Ontario to support the expansion of its Academic Upgrading program.Academic Upgrading provides a pathway for students to obtain their Grade 12 Equivalency, a prerequisite for applying to college programs. The Academic Upgrading program at the Cobourg Campus has seen an increase in students due to the number of individuals accessing the Second Career program through Fleming College. The funding has allowed the campus to expand its day and evening classes. The campus now offers Academic Upgrading evening classes four nights a week and it has opened a second classroom to offer classes four mornings a week. This is in addition to its regular Academic Upgrading classroom running five days a week.Currently, the campus has more than 100 students enrolled in Academic Upgrading on both a full-time and part-time basis. Last year about 30 students graduated from Academic Upgrading directly into postsecondary studies in disciplines such as practical nursing, esthetician, architectural design and fire systems engineering.     – 30 -For more information:     Laura Copeland, Communications Officer, 705-749-5530 x 1370 or copeland@flemingc.on.ca
