Fleming College Esthetician students take silver, bronze in Skills Competition

Cobourg ON – (May 13, 2009) – Two Fleming College students have come home with medals after competing in the Ontario Technological Skills Competition in Waterloo May 4-5.  Elise Arruda won silver and Samantha Coatham took home a bronze medal in the Esthetics category. The two students are coached by Tracy Partridge, Coordinator of Fleming’s Esthetician program, and faculty member Gwen Bennet. The Esthetician program is located at the Cobourg Campus of Fleming College."The students performed their esthetic skills with professionalism, maturity and grace under the pressure of a competition of this scope. As part of the Esthetics faculty, I am extremely pleased with their abilities and the way in which the students dealt with the day’s events. Our students should be very proud of themselves – I know Fleming College is," said Ms. Partridge.Within the Esthetics divisions, the students had to compete in three areas: French manicure Leg and underarm waxing FacialMs. Arruda and Ms. Coatham competed against students from St. Lawrence College, St. Clair College, and Seneca College. The Ontario Technological Skills Competition takes place annually and attracts 1,600 competitors and 30,000 visitors from across the province. More than 60 categories in the skilled trades and technologies are offered to postsecondary and secondary students as well as apprentices. Located in Central Ontario, Fleming College has campus locations in Peterborough, Lindsay, Cobourg and Haliburton. Named for famous Canadian inventor and engineer Sir Sandford Fleming, the college features more than 90 full-time programs in Business, Computing and Hospitality, Continuing Education and Skilled Trades, Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences, Fine Arts, Health and Wellness, Interdisciplinary Studies, and Law, Justice and Community Services.
