Ecosystem Management students to host “Big Communities, Little Planet” conference
Fleming College third-year Ecosystem Management students are completing their final semester by hosting the “Big Communities, Little Planet” conference in Lindsay, Ont., on Thursday, April 12, at the Frost Campus. The purpose of the conference is to promote local action for global change.
The keynote speakers at the 5th Annual Ecosystem Management Technology conference are Maude Barlow and Jacob Rodenburg. Maude Barlow is the National Chairperson of the Council of Canadians and Jacob Rodenburg is the Executive Director of Camp Kawartha, and speeches will take place in the Glenn Crombie Theatre from 6 to 8 p.m. Guests can also attend workshops during the day, from 1 to 5 p.m., to learn about subjects ranging from the concept of a community time bank to seed starting to ecosystem health initiatives in Africa.
The key objective of the conference is to bring community members and students together to learn about environmental issues and solutions. Attendees will be inspired and motivated to make positive change in their personal lives and in their communities, which will enhance the health of communities, ecosystems, and the planet as a whole.
Students, area residents, community groups and local businesses are invited to attend, participate and learn. The registration desk will be in the main foyer for attendees to check in.
