Annual Tree Climbing Competition at Frost Campus

Published

Arboriculture students will be demonstrating their aerial skills high above the ground at the annual Fleming Tree Climbing Competition.

Twenty-five students will compete in five events – Aerial Rescue, Speed Climb, Footlock, Throw Line, and Work Climb. The students will follow the same rules and guidelines that the International Society of Arboriculture International Tree Climbing Competition uses each year. A men’s and women’s champion will be crowned at the end of the day.

Rain or shine, the event will take place near the Outdoor Education Centre at the Frost Campus (the log cabin), 200 Albert St. S. Lindsay. Events get underway at 9 a.m. and run until about 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12.

Please note there is no parking adjacent to the competition. Spectators and visitors can park in the pay and display lots at the front of the campus.

Fleming College has a strong tradition of tree climbing champions. Fleming has taken the top spot in the men’s competition at the Ontario Tree Climbing Competition (OTCC) for the last 12 years. Most recently, Fleming alumni won in a big way at the OTCC in September 2010, nabbing the four top spots in the men’s competition. First-place winner John Ransom receives an all-expenses-paid trip to Sydney, Australia to compete in the World Tree Climbing Championship in August 2011.

Located in the heart of Central Ontario, Fleming College has campus locations in Peterborough, Lindsay, Cobourg and Haliburton. Named for famous Canadian inventor and engineer Sir Sandford Fleming, the college features more than 90 full-time programs in Business and Technology, Continuing Education and Skilled Trades, Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences, Visual Arts, Education, Health and Wellness, and Law, Justice and Community Services.
