Designing for Your Future

From crystal balls to weather forecasts to artificial intelligence, humans have always sought ways to predict the future and how we might change it. These uniquely human practices are one of the keys to our success: whether it's solving new problems, remixing past practices or applying emerging technologies, creative thinkers are always introducing new ideas and practices to the world. This course will briefly cover the history of future prediction and its relationships to pattern-recognition and creative practices. You'll explore some of the modern tools and techniques used by artists, designers and businesses to produce innovative new products and artifacts in the world.
You'll learn these future design skills through hands-on activities such as: collecting and analysing current trends and signals, applying modern foresight tools like back-casting and design fiction, using generative AI for scenario planning and visualization, and using various prototyping techniques to explore and develop your new ideas. prototyping techniques to explore and develop your new ideas.
A $15 material fee payable to the instructor will be needed on your first day of class
