Ceramics - Raku

Course Code: ARTS2689

This advanced-level professional development course is a challenging exploration of the technical aspects of various Raku effects.
Please bring 10 bisqued pieces using Raku clay.

Topics will be systematically studied, and results evaluated so that successful outcomes can be obtained at will. There will be a thorough study of effective firing and post-firing reduction techniques. These techniques will form the basis of obtaining successful results with glaze, Naked Raku/Shadow Crackle, Obvara and horsehair firings. Participants will also explore resist techniques, image transfer, texture, the use of stains and oxides and post firing enhancements to refine their pieces. There will be daily firings and, time permitting, Raku kiln design will be addressed.
A $20 material fee payable to the instructor will be needed on your first day of class
