Real estate is a regulated profession in Ontario, and all real estate agents must be registered with the Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO). RECO’s mission, as the regulator of real estate services in Ontario, is to provide consumer protection by ensuring that agents and brokerages follow the law. If you’re interested in becoming a real estate agent, Fleming College offers the Real Estate Salesperson Program to help you take the first step in your career. Below, you'll find the key steps required to become registered.
The pre-registration phase of the program is comprised of five courses, two simulation sessions and six exams which must be completed sequentially.
You will have a maximum of 24 months to complete this pre-registration education and then apply for registration with RECO.
Upon completing Step 1, you now meet the education requirements for registering with RECO. You have one year to complete your registration from the time you complete the pre-registration phase of the program. You can start trading in real estate once you are registered with RECO.
To be eligible to renew your registration at the end of your initial two-year registration cycle with RECO, you must complete the post-registration phase. Complete the mandatory compliance course and then complete any two of the remaining 5 electives. You will have a maximum of 24 months to complete your post-registration phase.
Learners are required to complete the pre-registration phase of the Real Estate Salesperson Program prior to applying for registration with RECO.
All elements of the Real Estate Salesperson Program’s pre-registration phase outlined below must be completed in the stated order, with successful completion required to progress to the next program element.
Learners are required to complete the post-registration phase of the Real Estate Salesperson Program prior to the end of their initial two-year registration cycle in order to renew their registration with RECO.
