Program Highlights

Through hands-on training, you will learn to develop and manage recreation programs to work in this challenging and rewarding field. In the final semester, get connected to the recreation industry thorough an experiential field placement at a site of your choice, that can be in Ontario, in Canada or in an international location.

Basic Exemption: First Semester Courses

Provided that you meet the admission requirements, you will be exempted from first semester courses of the Diploma program. You will start in September, begin your next semester in January, and participate in your final semester block placement beginning in May.

You will be required to pay tuition and fees for 3 semesters--including the final semester field placement.

Graduate students who have previously completed a 15-week, Human Service-related supervised Field Practice, or a related Prior Learning Experience in the field of Recreation and Leisure Services, may qualify for a reduced time requirement for placement, as approved by the Program Coordinator.

Non Academic Requirements

Your program has mandatory requirements which may include a criminal reference check, first aid, CPR-C, etc. For more information, please see the Non Academic Requirements page.

Failure to provide any of the required Non Academic Field Requirements by the specified due date will result in an inability to participate in the mandatory placement components of the program.

Minimum Admission Requirements

Students applying to Recreation and Leisure Services - Advanced Standing must meet the following requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree or Ontario College diploma in a related field or equivalent

OSSD with majority of courses at College (C ) or Open (O) unless otherwise stated.
Grade 12 C courses will be accepted where Gr 11 C course requirements are listed.
Where College level courses are listed, U and M courses will be accepted.
Two Gr 11 courses will be accepted in lieu of a Gr 12 course requirement.

  • Hold an externally accredited qualification in one or more Fitness Instruction (Can Fit Pro), Assistant Swim Teaching (Canadian National Swim Association) & Introductory Level Lifeguard (Emergency Response Award) prior to arrival
  • BSc (Ordinary) graduates in the above program will be eligible to achieve a BB (Hons) in Recreation & Leisure through one year of full-time onsite study.
