Gain a base of knowledge and skills to safely and effectively operate various types of agricultural equipment. Hands-on training on state-of-the art simulators as well as industry equipment prepares you for in-demand careers in the agriculture sector.
Program Highlights
Technology is quickly changing the landscape of how farming machinery is used. Most equipment now incorporates digital, smart technologies with capabilities to measure and monitor soil conditions, climate, pests, and crop yields. Most equipment also uses GPS technologies to manage land use and planning.
Our 10-week certificate program covers equipment design, power systems, and operating and steering systems of a full range of equipment used in the agriculture industry. The program also includes implement attachment, equipment maintenance, guidance systems, programming, and innovations in the Agricultural industry. Road operations and equipment transport, and field operations are also part of the program.

Our School of Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences has a long and successful history of offering Forestry, Agricultural and Heavy Equipment programming at our Frost Campus in Lindsay. We have an existing base of expertise, support, space, and equipment for programs in the forestry and agricultural sectors. Our simulators are an innovative training tool, enabling students to practice their skills in a safe and controlled environment. We are the only college in Eastern Ontario to offer this program.
Career Opportunities
Careers for graduates of this program are varied and include employment as heavy equipment operators, general farm workers and greenhouse/nursery workers. Starting salaries range from $15 to $20 per hour.

Mature Students
If you are 19 years of age or older before classes start, and you do not possess an OSSD, you can write the Skillsmarker to assess your eligibility for admission. Additional testing or academic upgrading may be necessary to meet specific course requirements for this program.
Minimum Admission Requirements
Students applying to Agricultural Equipment Operator must meet the following requirements:
- OSSD with majority of credits at the Workplace (E) level including Gr 12 (E)English
Where Workplace level courses are listed, C, U and M courses will be accepted.
For programs requiring a majority of credits at the Workplace level, OLC4O will be counted as an acceptable English course.
