You will learn how to provide a range of treatments, including manicures, pedicures, skincare, body treatments, waxing techniques and makeup application. Employment prospects are strong for people trained as qualified estheticians as more people are seeking treatments to maintain a youthful appearance, reduce stress and improve health and wellness. Here's what's special about our program:

  • The program is fast-tracked to enable you to enter the esthetics industry sooner - you will take the equivalent of two years of study in just 12 months.
  • Small class sizes ensure you will get the individual attention from faculty to build your skills to the level required in the spa industry.
  • We have our own, on-campus, state of the art spa: The Spa + Clinic at Fleming College, where all students do their placements.
  • Learn the art and science of Essential Oils using our award winning, ethically produced European Aromatherapy skin care line. Advanced products include an innovative medical and clinical product line for the treatment of acne, and a clinical botanical science - based product line designed for correction and management of aging skin.
  • Only top-of-the-line vegan and aromatherapy-based professional products are used in both our teaching and practice.
  • Our spa lab features a sink, hot towel cabinet, fully-stocked cabinet of skin care products and facial machines at each station to provide you with the opportunity to both practice and experience the latest in spa body treatments and skin care services.
  • We teach the latest trends in gel nail technology utilizing ventilated manicure tables
  • Students practice pedicures at stations equipped with pipeless spa pedicure thrones and massage chairs.

The Esthetician program is offered in the daytime over three consecutive semesters. Intakes occur in September, January and May. Extensive experiential learning (288 hours) takes place in semesters two and three where you will provide esthetic services to clients our onsite spa.

The Esthetician program at Fleming offers a number of unique opportunities to help you find your niche in this wide ranging industry:

  • Field to trips to spa industry destinations will occur over the course of the program
  • Guest lecturers from the spa industry share their expertise and real-world experiences to help you plan your career options upon successful completion of the program
  • You will attend a hydrotherapy training session in the third semester for a hands-on experience with professional equipment and products at Ste. Anne's Spa, one of Canada's premier destination spas
  • Volunteering with our many industry partners and local charities gives students the opportunity to experience diverse cultures, specific client group needs and to give back to the community

In addition, our students are involved in a number of competitions, including the Inter-College Fantasy Make-up Competition, and Ste. Anne’s Spa Body Treatment Competition (the 2009 Citrus Sun treatment was designed by one of our students).

You will practice your skills, improve your techniques, and learn how to offer excellent customer service in our on-campus spa. With one state-of-the-art work station for every two students on average, you can be sure that you will have the opportunity to really gain in confidence as you practice current methods and techniques in use in the field. You will work directly with clients for approximately 28 weeks total throughout the program.

Success in this career requires these skills and traits:

  • Passion for wellness
  • Strong communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Team player
  • Conscientious
  • Compassionate and caring
