Fleming’s Culinary Management students compete for sweet recognition in Central Smith’s Recipe Development Challenge

Peterborough ON – (January 20, 2020) Fourth-semester students in Fleming’s Culinary Management program will compete in a Recipe Development Challenge to create unique and interesting ice cream or sorbet recipes for Central Smith Creamery.  

The local collaboration will provide students with hands-on experience, bringing creative and innovative ideas to life. The challenge will showcase how Central Smith’s premium products can be transformed into profitable menu items that meet the demands of customers in the food service industry. The five most original recipes will be featured on Central Smith’s blog and social media channels. 

The Challenge will occur on Monday, Jan 27 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Fleming’s Sutherland Campus, 599 Brealey Dr., Peterborough, room A3145. Students will have three hours to develop their ice cream or sorbet flavour and prepare to present to the judging panel. Judging will begin at 12 p.m. with the top five winning recipes announced at 1:45 p.m.

Media are invited to attend for a unique photo opportunity, and to learn more about the collaboration between the College and Central Smith Creamery. The competition will be an intensive yet fun event, as ice cream is typically challenging to work with. The Challenge agenda is below:

9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Recipe Production

12 – 1 p.m.  Judging panel

1:45 p.m. Top five recipes will be announced.
