Fleming College ranks as one of Canada’s top research colleges

Published

Peterborough ON (December 15, 2020) – Fleming College has climbed to the 23rd position on Canada’s Top 50 Research Colleges list.

According to results published today by Research Infosource Inc., Fleming College has achieved its highest ranking since first appearing on the Canada’s Top 50 Research Colleges list in 2011. Ranking is based on research income with data obtained through surveys of publicly-funded colleges and from 2018-2019 financial statements. During that time, Fleming College had $4 million of sponsored research income, up 79.1 per cent from the previous year. The College ranked 30th last year.

“The substantial increase in research funding is confirmation that applied research is growing at Fleming,” said Fleming College President Maureen Adamson. “Our research teams are forging strong relationships with industry, community organizations, and government. We’re expanding applied research into new areas so that our faculty and student researchers can provide practical innovative solutions to our partners.”

The benefits of college applied research for industry include better production processes and new or improved products and services. For social innovation partners, applied research leads to adapted or improved services, processes, policies, and changes to systematic challenges that have left vulnerable people behind.
