City of Kawartha Lakes ON – (January 13, 2017) – Alumni of Fleming College’s Forestry program are invited to commemorate a major milestone in partnership with Forests Ontario.

In 2017, Fleming’s Forestry program will celebrate its 50th anniversary. Forests Ontario is helping mark the occasion by hosting a Fleming alumni reunion in conjunction with its annual conference.

“On the occasion of the program’s 50th anniversary, we look forward to bringing together generations of graduates to celebrate Fleming’s continued contributions to forestry in Ontario and beyond,” said Rob Keen, RFP, Forests Ontario CEO. “Ontario’s forestry sector includes 180,000 professionals whose work supports innumerable social, economic, and environmental benefits throughout our communities. For decades, Fleming’s forestry programs have been responsible for the training of so many of those who have made our province a globally recognized leader in the sustainable management of forest resources.”

Every year, Forests Ontario Annual Conference brings together more than 300 landowners, forestry professionals, students, educator and those passionate about our forests to explore key issues. Sessions at the 2017 conference will discuss how it takes a forest to build healthy communities and a robust and prosperous society. It takes a forest to keep us healthy, support wildlife, build our communities and fight climate change. As society makes critical decisions regarding our forests, it is now more important than ever that we all understand the importance of this great resource in a changing world. The forests of Ontario have a great story to tell.

Fleming Forestry graduates from all years are invited to attend the reunion and networking event taking place at the Nottawasaga Inn in Alliston, Ont. from 7-9 p.m. on Feb. 9, 2017.

Alumni are encouraged to attend the reunion and then join Forests Ontario for the 2017 annual conference the following day.

Forestry, now a two-year diploma program with an optional co-op, was the first program offered within Fleming’s School of Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences and is today the largest in Canada.
