Fleming celebrated International Education Week with its annual Multicultural Showcase

Published

Peterborough ON – (November 24, 2021) – Fleming put on a display of multiculturalism that exists within the College community last week to coincide with International Education Week (IEW) from November 15 – 19.

IEW was supported this year by Fleming’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Council, which kicked off the event with the launch of a podcast on cultural influences in their members’ lives. Fleming students, faculty, staff and community partners put together a series of videos showcasing their immigration stories, talents and cultural experiences. The videos include storytelling about life and history from China, Egypt, Netherlands, India and Brazil, culinary recipes from Syria, Turkey and Africa, dance and song from India, and fashion from Southeast Asia.

Fleming has more than 1,200 international students from over 30 countries. Many students, staff and community partners collaborated to put together this Multicultural Showcase. These stories and performances represent not only the Fleming and Peterborough communities but also cultural influences that form our diverse Canadian population. The videos can be viewed here.

IEW is celebrated in over 100 countries to demonstrate the impact international education has on preparing students with the latest industry skills to compete and collaborate on the global stage. International students and educators contribute vastly to the economy, culture and diversity of the communities they choose to study and reside in.
