Coronavirus Update – January 29

Peterborough ON – (January 29, 2020) We continue to keep the health and safety of our Fleming community top of mind, and appreciate the ongoing diligent efforts to enhance hygiene practices across our campuses.

Working closely with Peterborough Public Health and public authorities, the College is closely monitoring the situation’s potential impact and will continue to provide regular updates to the college community. Today, the Peterborough Regional Health Centre stated:

While the risk remains low, local healthcare partners, including Peterborough Regional Health Centre, have infection prevention and control measures in place to protect the community in the event should there be a confirmed local case of the novel coronavirus.”

Yesterday, Fleming College participated in a Ministry of Colleges and Universities teleconference hosted by Deputy Minister, Laurie LeBlanc. Invited to the meeting was Dr. David Williams, Chief Medical Officer of Health for Ontario, who provided a verbal update on the emerging issue of the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV). Dr. Williams confirmed that while our region’s risk remains low, we are encouraged to take necessary precautions and stay informed with the information that comes through the Ministry of Health, Public Health Ontario and the Peterborough Public Health Unit.

Over the last few days, and continuing throughout the week, you will notice an increase in number of hygiene stations at all college entrances and common areas on campus. We will also launch awareness campaigns to encourage our community to keep hygiene a priority. Fleming College has also enhanced cleaning protocols across all campus locations.

All classes and campus operations will continue as scheduled, and at this time, there continue to be no presumptive cases of the virus at Fleming College. We will continue to provide updates here: flemingcollege.ca/coronavirus.
