Dan Grieves Memorial Bursary

This bursary is named after Dan Grieves of Lindsay, Ontario. On October 8th, 2008 Dan became entangled in the augers of a drill rig, which resulted in his death. Although Dan was a very safety-conscious driller, it proves that accidents can happen. The purpose of this bursary is to encourage drillers to challenge the industry to improve safety standards, and to think independently from normal operations. The funding from this bursary comes from proceeds of a drill string guarding system developed by Determination Drilling called Grieves Guard, as well as an International Drilling Safety Conference, held at Fleming College. It is the responsibility of the award recipient to ensure safety and identify all potential hazards on any job site, regardless of what is considered normal.

Awarded to a domestic full-time student enrolled in Resource Drilling and Blasting Technician program who demonstrates financial need.

* Student must have resided in Ontario for twelve months prior to beginning their post-secondary studies.
