Kate Hessin

Kate Hessin is an emerging multimedia visual artist from Port Hope. Her work moves fluidly from papercrete sculptures to works on paper in both ink and watercolour. Having earned a Bachelor of Design from OCAD University and a Bachelor of Education from Lakehead University, Kate's artistic journey has been marked by a series of meaningful exhibitions, including the recent Letting Go which was part of her residency with Critical Mass in Port Hope. Her sculptural series, Mother Mothra, has found a permanent place in the Drake Hotel collection, reflecting her unique style and voice. Through her artwork, Kate offers a reflection on the complexities of womanhood and the multifaceted nature of the maternal experience. Kate infuses all her pieces with a folkloric whimsy and humour, creating an inviting space that encourages the unpacking of the darker aspects of motherhood. In addition to her artistic pursuits, Kate has been sharing her skills as a Visual Art Teacher at Trinity College School in Port Hope since 2019.
