Analyze the social, economic and technological developments of the motion picture industry from its inception to contemporary times. Compare and contrast the film styles of different nations and cultures. Examine the role of cinema in shaping and reflecting society and culture. Films are selected by type and issues arising from the genres are explored. Topics can range from The Silent Era, Film Noir, Animation, Independent Cinema, and the Hollywood system.
