Photography - Creative Low Tech

Course Code: ARTS2629

Explore the creative possibilities of shooting photographs with low tech and old-fashioned cameras including plastic lens toy cameras, such as the Lomo and the Holga and Polaroid. Many people love the simplicity of these tools as well as their unpredictability (soft focus, light leaks, imperfect exposures). Lots of example images will be provided to spark your own creative ideas. There's no need to bring your film camera. Toy cameras and film will be provided. Students will learn to develop film and print photographs in the wet darkroom. Experience is an asset but not required. Photographs will be further enhanced with hand colouring methods. Polaroid instant prints will be transformed by lifting the emulsion layer and transferring the jelly like image to another substrate like watercolour paper. This results in a moody, wrinkled or ripped one of a kind piece of photo art.
