Explore the nursing process and patient's journey through the pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative phases of their operating room experience while developing an understanding of the fundamental principles of perioperative nursing. Explore how cultural values, beliefs and practices influence the perioperative nursing role. Gain insight into perioperative standards, interprofessional roles and accountabilities of the operating room health care team including those of the circulating, scrub nurse and anesthetist. Interactive asynchronous and in-person simulation lab opportunities will allow you to develop specific perioperative nursing skills such as, aseptic technique, patient preparation and positioning and the understanding of the specifics aligned with the Registered Nurse /Registered Practical Nurse.
