Lettering in Stone

Haliburton School of Art + Design

Enrol in Lettering in Stone

Course Code: ARTS2392

Discover the traditional art of carving letters into stone, using special stone carving techniques. You will also be introduced to the art of brush drawing Roman letters; laying out pleasing designs and transferring those designs to stone. Some knowledge of calligraphy is helpful, but not required. Various letter styles will be explored and you will be free to choose and draw your lettering using traditional or non-traditional forms and layouts. If you are new to stone carving this is a great entry into the art, as you will learn very controlled carving skills. If you have stone carving experience, this is an excellent way to refine your carving abilities and expand your repertoire of skills. You can expect to complete a small carved plaque with a limited number of letters.

Some courses require additional textbooks and/or materials. Please visit your campus bookstore in-person or online: Peterborough Bookstore or Lindsay Bookstore.
