Indigo & Shibori

Explore the fascinating history and culture of Indigo. For centuries indigo has been used worldwide, from clothing for workers to regal garments. In this course you will learn how to create indigo vats for dyeing fabrics in various shades of blue. With your naturally dyed fabrics you will explore Japanese resist methods of clamping, stitching, and binding. Textile patterning known as shibori will also be covered in this course. Augmenting some of your dyed fabrics sashiko, a traditional stitching method for mending and creating patterns will be introduced.
