Ilitsiniq - To Teach & Learn with Emotion

Course Code: ARTS2660

For several generations now, Indigenous people in Canada have been navigating the colonial education system or way of learning and resisting it (vs. resisting learning). The effects of imposed ways of receiving knowledge are causing a disconnect. For so long, the inner space that receives this learning has been in conflict, causing many to fall out of love with education. This experience is also shared with those that do not identify as Indigenous. What has stayed intact is the capacity to engage, adapt and receive. We know the issue is not whether we are capable of being engaged learners but rather how can we love learning again. This course will empower you to explore art and story in an emotionally healthy and acknowledging space to 're-engage' your love of learning. Ilinniaq will be the foundation of the curriculum. Experiential learning through writing, reading and creating will all be part of this course as you create a story that is shared through multiple modalities and tools.
