Figure Drawing - Expressing the Real

Haliburton School of Art + Design

Enrol in Figure Drawing - Expressing the Real

Course Code: ARTS2337

This intensive course will focus on depicting the human form. Emphasis will be on creating 'naturalistic' imagery - drawings that emphasize the appearance and character of the people being drawn, without necessarily being too technical or strict in the process. Instruction will consist of guided exercises in observational drawing; including gesture drawing, contour drawing, mass drawing, measurement, and sighting. Beginning with shorter studies to develop and refine skills, you will progress to longer drawings, and be encouraged to bring your personal sensibility to your work. Studio working time will be supported by reference handouts, brief demonstrations and some group discussion. A variety of media, including charcoal, conte crayon, and graphite, will be explored. Instruction is intended for beginner to intermediate skill levels. Some basic drawing experience is an asset.

Some courses require additional textbooks and/or materials. Please visit your campus bookstore in-person or online: Peterborough Bookstore or Lindsay Bookstore.
