Enrol in Fibre Art Open Studio
Course Code: ARTS0221
This course is not suitable for beginners.
Bring any fibre-art related project you would like to develop. It might be a cheesecloth portrait you never completed, a painted textile you wanted to take to the next level, but weren't sure where to start or a textile you want to experiment with. Immerse yourself in supported, independent work, amid the camaraderie of fellow fibre art aficionados. Being part of a group that shares knowledge, expertise, tools, and resources will help you move forward with your project and provide alternative resolutions you might not have considered. Instruction will introduce different approaches to problem solving and testing new design concepts. Examine the work of some of the world's leading fibre artists, illustrating basic design principles, and revisit - or discover for the first time - the plethora of surface design techniques available. Group discussions and presentations will address particular challenges and questions and may inspire unanticipated new directions for works. Group dialogue will be interwoven with one-on-one consultations and positive guidance regarding the direction and concepts of your work. Experiment and play with fibre - cotton, linen, silk, wool and cheesecloth, to explore a variety of techniques: painting, hand and machine stitching, printing, and more, to discover electronic processes and to learn a variety of methods for displaying fibre art effectively. Explore imagery, content, ideas, and manners of execution, and confront creative processes within a supportive, open studio environment. The instructor encourages students to email her in advance of the workshop to discuss projects and answer questions. Her email address is on the material list.
