Haliburton School of Art + Design

Enrol in Create to Meditate Workshop

Course Code: ARTS2370

In light of growing evidence that suggests meditation can have a profound impact on improving one's physical and mental well-being, this workshop is designed to offer creative aids to support your meditative pursuits - with a playful approach. Make a tabletop Zen garden from scratch, including a unique set of gardening tools to create patterned pathways in the sand, and choose an assortment of objects to place in your garden to cultivate a pleasing, yet changeable, design. Positioning your garden in an open area at home or work will be an aesthetic and practical reminder to tend to a little mindfulness throughout your day. You will also make a collection of painted mandala stones - the practice of which is fun, expressive, and meditative unto itself. These decorative rocks can then be used as paperweights, door stops, garden stones, or randomly placed art nuggets to trigger a moment of mindfulness. Fundamentals of meditation will also be addressed; ways to avoid the common pitfalls; types of meditation - as not one style fits all; and other insights to inspire and motivate your efforts. Meditation exercises will be practiced throughout the workshop. New and seasoned meditators alike are welcome.

Some courses require additional textbooks and/or materials. Please visit your campus bookstore in-person or online: Peterborough Bookstore or Lindsay Bookstore.
