Haliburton School of Art + Design

Enrol in Colour

Course Code: ARTS0053

There is more to choosing effective colour combinations than merely picking the appealing ones. With insight and practice, colour becomes your most expressive tool. Learn how to make informed decisions on choosing colour for purely aesthetic reasons, emotional impact, or colour balance. It is one of the primary tools affecting visual perception and emotional response. Various studies will provide a basic understanding of the principles of colour and colour vocabulary. Examine tonal gradation, value, harmony, discord, optical colour mixing, and much more. A variety of visual support materials will inform and direct you. Expect to spend some time mixing paints and pulling objects from the world around you, in an exploration of what makes colour work and what works for you. Knowledge of the complexities of colour enriches your perception and deepens the pleasure and experience of art and the world around you.
