Ceramics Advanced Studies-Mould-Making and Slip-Casting

Course Code: ARTS2685

This course will focus on the process of mould-making and slip-casting for the purpose of creating sculptural forms. You will learn how to make two-part plaster moulds from found objects, gain a material understanding of plaster and casting-slip, and explore unique ways in which slip-cast objects can be attached together, altered and constructed. To enhance the hands-on aspect of the course, visual presentations of historical and contemporary slip-cast objects will be shown to inspire participants in their own work, and contextualize the mould-making and slip-cast process within the field of ceramic art.
