This course introduces the expressive and experiential nature of abstract painting. Develop your painting vocabulary and an understanding of abstract form through a series of projects that emphasize the meaning of colour, gesture, form and compositional design that belie the flatness of picture plane. A particular emphasis will be placed on strategies to create a materials-based approach to image making that is rooted in the alchemy of painting.
