Highlights

Virtual reality and augmented reality are not just popular among gamers. Knowing the basics of how to create these realities can give you in-demand skills to help you stay competitive in a wide range of industries. Applications beyond game design, including teaching, product experiences, real estate, employee training, marketing, architecture and landscape design and more.

Developed by experts in the field, these courses have a strong focus on learning and testing skills through practical applications. You will gain a wide range of fundamental skills to create virtual reality and augmented reality experiences. Courses are fully online, instructor-led asynchronous to give you the flexibility to learn when it fits your schedule.

Admission Requirements

  • 19 years or older, or completed an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent
  • Basic Windows computer and internet skills (managing files and folders, keyboarding, email and Internet searches)

Micro-credential: Integration of Multimedia in Virtual Reality

Learn to create your own VR scenes, landscapes, and 3D assets in this front-end-design focused course. You will learn the basics of the game engine Unity and Microsoft Visual C# programming and gain an understanding of the User Interface (UI) and logic to develop a simple UI system and User Experience (UX). Consolidate your skills in the final project, creating a VR treasure hunt game.

Micro-credential: Virtual Reality Graphics with Unity Engine

Fast-track your understanding of creating graphics in the game engine Unity. We will start by setting up a Unity environment and exploring the Unity Editor. You will gain hands-on experience with a variety of graphics features, learning about technical specifications, implementation as well as performance measurement and optimization. Use these skills in your culminating project to design and build an executable application on the VR platform.

Micro-credential: Virtual Reality Introduction using Unity

In this primer to virtual reality game design, we will cover the basics that make up a great user experience. You will discover how VR has evolved, how to set up a VR headset properly and how to work with the graphics feature, physics system and user interface. We will also touch on managing multimedia in your game engine. Consolidate your knowledge by designing and building a game in your final assignment.

Micro-credential: Introduction to Augmented Reality using Unity

Are you ready to begin developing with Unity? Augmented Reality (AR) is an emerging field with opportunities in many industries ranging from programming, engineering, and media design to health care, skilled trades, and education. In this course, you will learn the essentials of AR, and how to use the Unity game engine to learn about surface detection, tracking, and how to create a mobile-based AR application. Explore the basics of the Unity interface, scripting and C# programming, and the AR Foundation Unity package. At the end of this course, you will configure a build setting for an app that can run on Android or iOS devices by utilizing Unity tools for performance and optimization on mobile devices.

Are you interested in developing scriptwriting and storytelling for realms completely different from the real world? Virtual Reality (VR) is an emerging field with opportunities in many industries ranging from programming, engineering, and media design to health care, skilled trades, and education. Examine how VR has influenced many of these industries to expand into immersive storytelling as a way to reach customers and audiences. Examine the pivotal role that creative and well-designed storytelling principles and tools play in film, virtual production, and journalism. This course provides you with the opportunity to develop your content creating skills for the VR medium within a storytelling framework.
