  • Carpentry I CRPT0002

    This course covers the common types of wood, wood structures, wood joints and hardware used in today's construction.

  • Carpentry II CRPT0003

    This course introduces the student to the concepts of residential construction.

  • Drafting MECH0191

    Units/ Hours: 21

    This course will provide students with the opportunity to develop skills in Architectural Drafting.

  • Electrical Wiring ELCT0099

    Units/ Hours: 42

    This course will provide students with an introduction to residential electrical wiring. The concentration will be on safety, appropriate tool selection, basic circuits and home wiring diagrams.

  • Geometry & Layout MATH0119

    Units/ Hours: 21

    This course will introduce the student to the basic principles of geometry as they apply to construction layout. Topics covered will include line-work, angles and the scale reproduction of geometric shapes.

  • Health and Safety Applied Applications CNST0152

    This course emphasizes the safety aspects encountered on the job site. Students will obtain workplace and industry related safety certification in Fall Protection, WHMIS, and Hoisting and Rigging through active demonstration of an appropriate level of skill.

  • Health and Safety Theory CNST0151

    This course has been prepared for those students entering the construction trade. The course will cover current legislation (O.H.S.A.), and its application to the trades. The course has been designed to develop in the learner knowledge of the health hazards and safety risks that are present on the job site and to equip them with the tools required for personal protection and general safety.

  • Plumbing Supply Systems MECH0189

    The student is introduced to basic residential plumbing, terminology, systems and tools.

    This course covers the interpretation of information found in architectural drawings such as lot plans, floor plans and elevations.

  • Trade Calculations & Estimating MATH0121

    Units/ Hours: 28

    This course covers the basic mathematical principles and skills as required by the learner entering a trade. Topics covered will include fractions, decimals, and the S.I. and imperial systems of measurement, including conversions between systems. Mensuration such as linear measurements, area and volume calculation for the purpose of material estimation will be covered. Skilled trade related mathematical problems including Pythagorean Theorem will also be covered.

  • Preparing for a Career in the Skilled Trades GNED0101

    This course introduces students to theories and strategies in the area of self awareness and relating to others and applies this learning to finding a job in the skill trades field.

Semester 2

  • Business Concepts BUSN0126

    This course introduces the student to the business side of construction with a focus on the basics of customer service, legal concerns, bookkeeping and operating a small business.

  • Computer Applications COMP0287

    Learning becomes more meaningful, more real and more relevant when we see connections between the classroom and the workplace. Making these connections is one of the guiding principles of this course. Students will quickly see how what they see, hear and do applies to their future employment in the construction industry. This course covers word processing and spreadsheet applications as they apply to the construction trade.

  • Interior Trim and Exteriors CNST0130

    This course introduces the student to the detail processes required when finishing residential construction - both interior trims and exterior finishes.

  • Sustainable Construction Materials CNST0128

    Units/ Hours: 21

    This course introduces the student to sustainable construction techniques and materials. The use of ICF, straw bales and reclaimed lumber will be covered.

  • Sustainable Energy Systems CNST0129

    Units/ Hours: 35

    This course covers sustainable construction techniques as they apply to residential alternative energy and mechanical systems.

  • Welding MECH0190

    Units/ Hours: 49

    This course covers Oxy-Fuel, Arc, and MIG welding as they are used in a typical construction site.
