White pine planted in honour of Premier’s Awards nominees

To honour the many contributions of Fleming College’s Premier’s Awards nominees – past, present, and future – Trees Ontario has generously donated an adult white pine tree that was planted at the Sutherland Campus today. The white pine is located outside of the Brian L. Desbiens Galleria and Technology Wing. Representatives from Trees Ontario, the Premier’s Awards and Fleming College were on-hand for the ceremony, which took place prior to a special event recognizing Fleming College’s 2008 Premier’s Awards nominees and Fleming College Foundation donors."Trees Ontario is thrilled to be supporting the Premier’s Awards in 2009 by planting trees in honour of the nominees," said Michael Scott, President and CEO, Trees Ontario. "This support and involvement will help us to build further awareness around the need to increase Ontario’s tree planting numbers and capacity, while recognizing the efforts and accomplishments of these individuals."Trees Ontario donated the white pine to Fleming College in recognition of Fleming’s donation of more than 400 white pine seedlings to the 2008 Premier’s Awards event. The seedlings will be distributed to those attending the awards event in February.Presented annually, the Premier’s Awards acknowledge outstanding graduates of Ontario’s colleges. Chosen from nominations submitted by Ontario’s colleges, nominees must demonstrate career success related to their college experience and must have made a significant contribution to their community.     – 30 -For more information:     Nicole Lytle-Grady, Alumni/Development Officer, 705-749-5530 x 1390 or nilytle@flemingc.on.caLaura Copeland, Communications Officer, 705-749-5530 x 1370 or copeland@flemingc.on.ca
