New spring start dates added for four Fleming College programs

Peterborough ON – (April 2, 2009) – Fleming College will launch four programs with new spring start dates to accommodate demand for college diploma and certificate programs.Construction Skills will begin April 27 while Resources Drilling and Blasting Technician, Office Administration – Compressed, and Electrical Engineering Technician will start on May 4.Construction Skills, Resources Drilling and Blasting and Electrical Engineering Technician have additional September start dates while Office Administration – Compressed has a January start.With existing economic conditions, providing additional entry points into college programs gives individuals returning to school the opportunity to graduate quickly and get back into the workforce.All of these programs are eligible for Second Career funding.Construction Skills is a two-semester certificate program that introduces students to construction trades such as carpentry, masonry, electrical and plumbing. Students can graduate into a career in the construction industry or go on to take an apprenticeship in an area of specialty.Resources Drilling and Blasting Technician is a four-semester diploma program at Frost Campus that teaches students the theory and skills needed in the drilling and blasting field. Eighty per cent of the program is practical with students working on a full range of drilling equipment.Office Administration – Compressed is a 26-week certificate program that develops administrative and professional skills. Students are trained on the latest computer technology and have the opportunity to network with professionals in the field. Simulated office environments, hands-on practice and a work placement ensure graduates are job-ready.Electrical Engineering Technician is a four-semester diploma program.
