New Spring Intakes Offered at Fleming College

Peterborough ON – March 25, 2010­ – Three popular skilled trades programs at Fleming College are now being offered with start dates during the month of May.  The Electrical Engineering Technician program starts in Peterborough on May 3rd, 2010 and Construction Skills starts on May 17th. The Heavy Equipment Operator program starts on May 31st at the Frost Campus in Lindsay.  These start dates offer students a new alternative to the traditional September and January intakes. Students can start and finish their programs sooner under these new options. Fleming has grown its portfolio of skilled trades programs and continues its commitment to helping the province meet demand for skilled tradespeople through these new offerings. Construction Skills, a two-semester program, helps students develop the skills necessary to make immediate contributions to employers in the carpentry, roofing, framing, exterior siding and insulation installation fields.  The Electrical Engineering Technician program is a four-semester program that provides a solid foundation of practice to start careers in the electrical field. Students in this program also have the option to graduate after one year with an Electrical Techniques Certificate. The 12-week Heavy Equipment Operator program offers hands-on training in the operation of   bulldozers, rubber-tired loaders, tractor loader backhoes, hydraulic excavators, and other construction equipment. Fleming’s Centre for Heavy Equipment Technology at the Frost Campus in Lindsay has a well-established reputation for leadership in equipment skills training. Courses in the Heavy Equipment Operator program include personal, work site and equipment safety, earthmoving technology, equipment maintenance, and heavy equipment operating techniques. Fleming is holding an Open House on April10th at all campus locations.
