New funding and support for employer training needs

Published

Peterborough ON – (January 8, 2015) – Fleming College is providing support for employers who want to invest in their workforce through the new Canada Ontario Job Grant.

The Canada Ontario Job Grant provides direct financial support for employers to obtain training for their workforce. Any employer in Ontario that identifies a training need in their organization is eligible for this funding. The cost of training is a shared investment between the employer and the federal and provincial government.

Employers can apply for the job grant through a local Employment Ontario service provider. For a list of providers visit: www.ontario.ca/employeetraining.
Fleming CREW (Community Resources for Employers and Workers), located at 1550 Lansdowne St. W. in Peterborough and at 49 Maple Ave. in Haliburton are Employment Ontario Service providers. Fleming College is also an eligible training provider through its Contract Training area.

In conjunction with this, Fleming College Contract Training has just launched a new and improved website – flemingcollege.ca/services/contract-training – with information on how and where training can be delivered to employers. The website also outlines the College’s areas of training expertise, which include Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences, Business, Health and Community, and Trades, Technology and Manufacturing.

Merit Precision is one local business that has participated in Fleming College Contract Training courses. President Tim Barrie said the experience has been beneficial to his employees and the company.

“My first line supervisors have been long time employees that have been promoted from the shop floor. Over the past year I have witnessed their personal transformation from basic supervisors to confident leaders and problem solvers,” he said.
