Local scholarship recipient announced

The first of the 2008 Board of Governors Scholarships for Academic Excellence has been awarded to a Lindsay high school student.Matthew Mercieca, a graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School, received acknowledgement of the scholarship from Fleming Governor and faculty member Dr. Joe Mior on Thursday, June 26.Mr. Mercieca has the highest academic average of any student from St. Thomas Aquinas who is attending Fleming College. The Board of Governors awards similar scholarships to the top students at all local high schools who are attending the college.Matthew will be taking Police Foundations at the Sutherland Campus starting in September 2008. He will receive $2,000 toward his tuition for the upcoming year.
