Largest January intake in Fleming College’s history

Published

Fleming College recorded the largest January intake in its history with close to 1,100 students starting their first semester this month.

“We are very pleased to welcome this record cohort of new students and we also want to welcome and thank our returning students for their ongoing support of the college,” said Fleming College President Dr. Tony Tilly. “Fleming offers a large slate of January offerings including new intakes targeted at international markets. It’s fantastic that such a large and diverse group of students has chosen Fleming this January as the next step in their career and educational pursuits.”

Enrolment results were buoyed by 107 new international students. Recent efforts to attract students from India, in partnership with Centennial College, have led to an international student population of 269.

Moving forward, Fleming College will continue its efforts to attract international students from China as well as India. International students now make up 4.5% of Fleming’s student population, greatly enriching the cultural and learning experience for the college’s domestic students.

More than half of Fleming’s 100-plus programs offer a January start. Students can study through the summer and start third semester with the fall cohort. This intake ensures a flexible option for students of all ages.

Also, Fleming’s courses and programs offered via the online education service OntarioLearn have seen strong growth, another option for students looking for a more customized class schedule.

The deadline for equal consideration for fall 2013 is fast-approaching. Prospective students are encouraged to apply by Feb. 1 to secure a seat in the program of their choice.

Located in the heart of Central Ontario, Fleming College has campus locations in Peterborough, Lindsay, Cobourg and Haliburton. Named for famous Canadian inventor and engineer Sir Sandford Fleming, the college features more than 100 full-time programs in Community Development and Health, Continuing Education, Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences, Justice and Business, Skilled Trades and Technology, General Arts and Science, and Visual Arts. Fleming College has more than 5,900 full-time and 10,000 part-time students, and more than 63,000 alumni.
