Israel’s Consul General speaks to business students

Published

Fleming College and the School of Business, Computing and Hospitality hosted a very important visitor at the Sutherland Campus on Jan. 24, 2011.

Fulford’s Restaurant was the scene for a standing room only crowd wanting to hear from, and see, Israel’s Consul General speak to business students concerning international relations, the economic relations between Canada and Israel, and general trade issues.

Students and staff heard Mr. Amir Gissin provide his, and his country’s, thoughts about global issues and relations. It’s not often that students in business programs at a college level have the opportunity to hear such a distinguished guest speaker on such important issues.

Mr. Gissin, a graduate of the University of Tel Aviv, has served as Israel’s Director of Public Affairs for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and he has served on missions for Israel worldwide. He was Chief of Staff to the Minister for the World Jewish Community and was government advisor to the Prime Minister’s Foreign Policy Secretary for Israel, under both the Netanyahu and Barak Israeli Governments. In addition, Mr. Gissin served as the Director General of the Mosaica Research Centre for Religion, State and Society and Director General of the Shalom Beinenu Foundation in Israel.

Students and staff were all very impressed with his one-hour presentation and thanked both the Consul General and Deputy for taking time from their hectic schedules to visit our college and present to our school and students.

This event was a significant example of the integration of the ‘EDGE’ concept across the School of Business, Computing and Hospitality curricula and specifically demonstrates our commitment to global and international aspects of learning within our programs.
