Frost faculty member wins LIFT Award

Fleming College faculty member John Knight has won a Leadership in Faculty Teaching (LIFT) Award. The award recognizes teaching excellence at Ontario’s colleges and universities. In addition to receiving the award, Mr. Knight will receive $20,000 over two years to encourage continued excellence in the classroom setting. Mr. Knight has taught with the Fish and Wildlife program within the School of Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences for more than 15 years. He has twice won Fleming’s Charles E. Pascal Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1997 and 2003, and has been nominated for that award three additional times in 1994, 2004 and 2005. Mr. Knights students nominated him for the award. They describe him as: a knowledgeable professor who provides excellent information to the class, and shares the students passion for learning. Its an awesome tribute from the students and that’s what its all about, said Mr. Knight. He was recognized for his achievement at a staff meeting at the Frost Campus on August 28. This is the first year the LIFT Awards have been handed out. The LIFT Award recipients were chosen by an independent selection committee made up of individuals from Ontario’s post-secondary sector. All the names of the 2007 LIFT Award winners are now posted on the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities website at:
