There were tears all around as faculty member Eric Sager presented student Michael Reaume with the Second Year Ecological Restoration Perseverance Award at the annual Academic Awards ceremony on June 3 at Frost Campus.

The award is presented to a second year student in the Ecological Restoration program who has shown outstanding perseverance and determination during the first two years of the program.

Michael, an exceptional student, served three tours of duty with the Canadian military in Afghanistan before deciding to return to the classroom.

“It’s a very proud experience for me to have him in the class,” said Prof. Sager. Michael received a standing ovation as he accepted his award.

The campus hosted the awards ceremony just prior to the 44th annual convocation.

More than 1,000 students graduated from the campus that day.

“Don’t be a spectator. Don’t watch your life go by,” Fellowship in Applied Education recipient George Skerratt urged graduates.

Valedictorian Katie Paroschy thanked faculty and staff during her speech.

“I would like to thank all of the teachers and especially all the support staff – the glue holding us together – because it is you who makes this institution feel like a home,” she said.
