From College Roommates to Business Owners: The Journey of Rob & Mitch

In 2013, Rob Hall and Mitch McKenzie met during their first year in the Police Foundations program at Fleming College. They quickly became close friends and roommates, navigating college life together while Mitch also played varsity soccer for the Fleming Knights (now Fleming Phoenix).
While working a summer student job at Peterborough Utilities, the two discovered a shared curiosity for electrical systems and engineering. That summer sparked a major shift, and after graduating from Police Foundations, they decided to pursue a new direction and enrolled in Fleming’s Electrical Engineering Technician program. The skills they gained from their first diploma stayed with them and continued to serve them well in their evolving careers.
After completing the program in 2017, Rob and Mitch went their separate ways professionally. Rob took on a role in continuous improvement and project management at a dairy plant, while Mitch became an industrial electrician in Toronto. But their paths crossed again when Rob had a frustrating experience with a spray foam contractor. He dove into research, realized the potential in the industry, and saw an opportunity to build something better with Mitch on board.
Using their engineering skills, they designed and built their own spray foam rig, saving over $100,000 in startup costs. In 2021, Just Spray It was officially launched.
Since then, the business has grown steadily, earning a five-star Google rating, hiring two more Fleming graduates, and hitting $1 million in revenue in their best year. Just Spray It now proudly serves the Peterborough and Kawarthas region, offering reliable, high-quality spray foam insulation services.
From college roommates to co-founders, Rob and Mitch’s journey is a testament to following your instincts, staying adaptable, and building something great from the ground up.
