Fleming College to host Women in Trades event for high school students

Peterborough ON – (Feb. 8, 2017) – Young women in Grades 9-12 will have the opportunity to connect with female mentors who work in the trades at Fleming College’s Women in Trades event.

Women in Trades will take place Tuesday, Feb. 28 from 6:15-9 p.m. at the Kawartha Trades and Technology Centre (KTTC) at Fleming’s Sutherland Campus. Three area school boards – Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board, Trillium Lakelands District School Board, and Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board – are sponsoring the event.

Up to 60 female high school students will attend with the opportunity to network and hear from women who have non-traditional careers in the trades. Peterborough-Kawartha MP Maryam Monsef, Minister of the Status of Women, is also expected to attend.

At the event, participants will be split into three groups and rotate through three activities: a mentor panel; a tour of the KTTC; and a tour of trade booths/displays.

Here is the full schedule:

  • 6:15 p.m. – Registration and refreshments (prepared by Fleming culinary students)
  • 6:30 p.m. – Official welcome
  • 6:45 pm – Activities start and rotate every 35 minutes
