Fleming College to Host Annual Loggersports Competition

Published

Lindsay, ON (October 26, 2018) – Fleming College will host its annual Canadian Intercollegiate Lumberjacking Association (CILA) Loggersports Competition on November 3 at the Fleming Loggersports Site, located at the Frost Campus in Lindsay.

The Fleming Knights look forward to hosting its 36th Annual Loggersports Competition which showcases 23 teams competing from seven different college and university institutions from across the country, including four teams competing from Fleming College. The competition is comprised of four team events; three paired events, six single events, and one individual pool event. These unique and exciting events include axe throwing, chain sawing, log decking, pole climbing, water boiling and more.

The Competition kicks off at 8 a.m. with its opening ceremonies and a ceremonial cookie cut, with morning events taking place at 8:30 a.m. Afternoon corral events commence with a start time of 2 p.m., the award ceremony to follow at 5:30 p.m. in the Auks’ Lodge within the College. Spectators welcome.

Fleming’s Loggersports competition is one of only four competitions that CILA members compete in annually. Fleming’s Loggersports competition is the second competition of four in the CILA season with points being earned by each team in each event. These points are based on ranking in each event and contribute to the total tally of points for each team, providing the opportunity to become the CILA Champions for the year.

“We are looking forward to hosting 23 teams from seven different Colleges and Universities from across Canada. This year we are pleased to have Maureen Adamson, President of Fleming College, join us in the opening ceremonies and ceremonial cookie cut,” said Michlynne Short, Campus Recreation Coordinator for Fleming College Athletics and Recreation, Frost Campus. “The Loggersports Competition brings a wide range of talent and skills that are unique to any other sport. It truly is an exciting one of a kind event.”

Fleming College welcomes the public to come and enjoy this event with free admission. Further information is available at www.flemingknights.ca or email sportsinfo@flemingcollege.ca.
