Fleming College today presented its Alumni of Distinction Award to Kerri Davies, Executive Director of Canterbury Gardens Retirement Residence.Ms. Davies received the award at the morning Convocation ceremony for the Schools of Health and Wellness and Interdisciplinary Studies.“It’s an honour to be recognized as this year’s Alumni of Distinction when I think of those who have preceded me and the company I find myself in today,” said Ms. Davies. “The journey to my graduation was a journey of 36 years. Seventeen years later the journey continues with a commitment to ongoing education and learning.”Ms. Davies, an alumna of the Practical Nursing program, was the first in her family to go to postsecondary education and graduated at the top of her class.Since her graduation from Fleming she has been a community nurse and worked at Fairhaven before joining Royal Gardens Retirement Residence. She became executive director of Canterbury Gardens when the retirement home opened earlier this year.Ms. Davies now tries to give back to Fleming College by giving graduates from the nursing and personal support worker programs a chance at a career in health care.A community volunteer, Ms. Davies is a member of the Peterborough Rotary Club and has served on its board of directors. She was nominated for a Premier’s Award in 2008 due to her career success and contributions to the community.     – 30 -For more information:     Laura Copeland, Communications Officer, 705-749-5530 x 1370 or copeland@flemingc.on.ca
