Peterborough ON – (August 22, 2017) – Fleming College is inviting students, employees and alumni as well as the Peterborough community to help celebrate its 50th anniversary.

“Over the next month, Fleming will co-host a series of fun events, both in the community and at the college,” said Drew Van Parys, Executive Director of Advancement and Marketing. “It’s a way for us to not only celebrate this significant milestone but also give our thanks to the community for its unwavering and ongoing support of the college. All community members are welcome and encouraged to join in the celebrations.”

  • The college will kick-off 50th celebrations with a Fleming night at Peterborough Musicfest on Saturday, Aug. 26. Country music star Jason McCoy will perform a free concert at Del Crary Park, starting at 8 p.m.
  • The Peterborough Petes and Fleming have teamed up to help celebrate the college’s golden anniversary at the Petes’ home opener on Thursday, Sept. 21. As part of the evening, representatives from Fleming will take part in the puck drop as well as activities during the game.
  • Celebrations in Peterborough will culminate with a 50th anniversary party at Sutherland Campus on Friday, Sept. 22. From 3-7:30 p.m., the College will host live entertainment, special guests, soccer games (Fleming versus St. Lawrence College), and more. Fleming College first opened its doors in September 1967, part of Ontario’s ground-breaking network of community colleges that were established in Canada’s centennial year.

Starting with fewer than 200 students, Fleming has now grown to almost 6,000 full-time students. Its impact within the community and beyond is substantial with more than 74,000 alumni having graduated from the college over the last 50 years.
