Published

As students head back to class, Fleming College will see a 12 per cent jump in first year enrolment – projected to be one of the highest increases in all of Ontario’s 24 colleges. More than 2,850 students are expected to start first-semester classes at all campuses this week, the highest number in Fleming’s 40-year history. Areas that saw the greatest increases included the School of Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences and the School of Continuing Education and Skilled Trades. Fleming College led the provincial college system in student confirmations at 10 per cent above the system average. While registrations at Fleming have increased by 12 per cent, system-wide numbers will not be confirmed for a few weeks yet. Fleming continues to draw a broad cross-section of students – both secondary students and mature students – from across Ontario. The number of students attending Fleming from the Greater Toronto Area has also increased. “Students have many good choices for their education. We are glad to see that increasingly they are choosing Fleming – for our many programs and the student experience that our faculty and staff provide,” said Dr. Tony Tilly, President of Fleming College. Fleming emphasizes student learning first and has a reputation for excellent faculty-student interaction. The college also enhanced services and added new campus facilities in recent years to further draw in prospective students. The college successfully launched a variety of new programs this September such as the post-graduate Advertising – Marketing Communications, Event Management, Global Supply Chain Management, and Outdoor Adventure Skills programs. New students are getting settled into Fleming with Orientation activities planned for each campus throughout the week. Located in the heart of Central Ontario, Fleming College has campuses in Peterborough, Lindsay, Cobourg and Haliburton. Named for famous Canadian inventor and engineer Sir Sandford Fleming, the college features more than 90 full-time programs in Business and Technology, Continuing Education and Skilled Trades, Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences, Fine Arts, Health and Wellness, Interdisciplinary Studies, and Law, Justice & Community Services. Fleming College has more than 5,000 full-time and 10,000 part-time students and 50,000 alumni.
