This comes on the heels of a 29 per cent increase in new students starting in the summer semester while first year fall intake has risen 29 per cent over the last three years. While all areas of study have seen enrolment increases, two that have seen phenomenal growth are Fleming’s School of Environmental and Natural Resource Sciences at the Frost Campus and the School of Continuing Education and Skilled Trades, with first year registrations up by more than 30 per cent in each school.New programs such as Electrical Engineering Technician, Blasting Techniques and Fitness and Health Promotion have helped to boost enrolment.Fleming College also has more than 375 Second Career students registered to start classes today. The provincial program funds individuals, who have been recently laid off, to return to school for a new career.“We’re very pleased by these results and we look forward to offering our new students an exceptional learning experience here at Fleming,” said college president Tony Tilly. “Our growth is due to the life-changing opportunities that a college education can provide for students during challenging economic times and a direct reflection of the hard work and creativity of our employees in developing, delivering and promoting programs to meet student needs.” – 30 -For more information: Laura Copeland, Communications Officer, 705-749-5530 x 1370 or copeland@flemingc.on.ca
