Board of Governors elects Chair and Vice-Chairs, appoints new members

Peterborough ON – (August 28, 2014) – The Board of Governors of Sir Sandford Fleming College is pleased to announce the election of Joan Ross as Board Chair for a one-year term beginning Sept. 1, 2014. Lori Sutcliffe-Geens and Dana Merrett were elected Vice-Chairs for a similar one-year term.

Joan Ross was appointed to the Board in 2009 and re-appointed in 2012 for a second three-year term.  Ms. Ross has served as the Chair of the Board’s Executive Committee, as a member of the Academic and Student Affairs Committee, the Finance and Property Committee, the Audit Committee and the Human Resources Committee. Ms. Ross also served as the Chair of the Fleming College Foundation Board of Directors. A retired Northumberland Hills Hospital CEO, Ms. Ross brings more than 25 years’ experience in the health services field as well as an extensive understanding of the governance role.

Lori Sutcliffe-Geens was appointed to the Board in 2011 for a three-year term. She has served as a member of the Board’s Finance and Property Committee, Audit Committee and Advancement Committee. Prior to her appointment to the College Board, Ms. Geens served as a Director of the Fleming College Foundation Board and also held the position of Chair. She is the Operations Manager at Linmac Inc., a property management firm in Cobourg, and holds a CGA designation.

Dana Merrett was appointed to the Board in 2012 for a three-year term. Ms. Merrett has served as as a member and chair of the Board’s Academic and Student Affairs Committee and the Executive Committee. A local business women, Ms. Merrett is the General Manager of Carlson-Wagonlit Stewart Travel in Peterborough. She has taught part-time at the College, served on Program Advisory Committees and co-chaired a major fundraising initiative.

The Board also elected other members to serve as committee chairs for 2014-2015. Dan Stanford, President of Cabinetree (Peterborough), will chair the Finance and Property Committee as well as the Ad Hoc Risk Committee; Mr. Stanford was appointed to the Board for a three-year term in 2012. George Gillespie, a partner with McColl Turner LLP Chartered Accountants in Peterborough, will serve as Chair of the Audit Committee.

Joining the Board for a three-year term beginning September 1, 2014 is Nancy Martin-Ronson who currently holds the position of Chief Nursing Executive and Chief Information Officer for the Peterborough Regional Health Centre. Dr. Martin-Ronson brings extensive knowledge of the health sector and health-related information technology as well as a personal and professional interest in leadership and organizational development.

Joining the Board earlier in 2014 were Mike Perry (Executive Director, City of Kawartha Lakes Family Health Team) and George Gillespie. Each received their Order-in-Council for terms through to the end of August 2016.
