Weaving - Basic Level I

Course Code: ARTS0261

This course introduces the four-harness floor loom and basic setup and weaving skills. Suitable for the beginner weaver with no experience as well as those that want to learn the back to front dressing method, instruction will guide step-by-step through warping, dressing a loom, reading a draft, and using shuttles. There will also be an opportunity to play with colour, textures and treadling variations. The goal is to complete a set of mug rugs that display creative use of colour, fibre use, and weaving technique. Upon completion of the main project, using 4/8 cotton, experimenting with a variety of other supplied materials including a variety of yarns, cut fabrics, socks (clean used), ribbons, plastic bags, and other recyclables will be encouraged. Personal materials you have an interest in weaving with are welcome. A 4-harness loom and all necessary equipment to complete the class project will be provided. Those with previous experience are encouraged to bring completed projects to show the group.
A $55 material fee payable to the instructor will be needed on your first day of class
